Harvest 2020

As we begin another lockdown our outlook remains positive. As viticulturalists and winemakers, we often think and plan years ahead, and to us, the future looks really exciting! The weather we had is set to make 2020 a great vintage, especially for still wines. Our vineyards are well situated and sheltered by the natural surrounding landscapes, so luckily we were unaffected by the late frosts in May. The rest of the year was relatively dry and, at times beautifully sunny.

We experienced a few concentrated bursts of rain during harvest, but we managed to pick on days that were mostly dry, much to the delight of our hardworking volunteers! The quality of the fruit was exceptional with no disease pressure, allowing us to keep the grapes on the vine as long as possible to let the sugars rise and the acids fall to optimal levels for still wine!

The grapes were picked and pressed all within 24 hours, with both the free run and the pressings all destined only for our single varietal premium English still wines. The juice is now in steel tanks in Canterbury in the trusted care of Defined wine. The juice is currently fermenting, monitored daily by the team. We are making careful plans to bring out the best in our grapes and cant wait to share with you the 2020 vintage.
